10 tips for a successful trip to the Driving Range

How many times do you go to the driving range to work on your golf game and end up not gaining anything from the experience.
Sometimes you just take out your driver and see how far you can drive with no rhyme or reason other than “How far can I hit this thing”
Here are 10 tips to make your driving range experience a bit more productive.
- Find a driving range where you can hit off the ground using your own tees. Lets face it, when you play a round of golf you do not hit off a huge round piece of pipe attached to some artificial turf on a plywood platform.
- If the Driving range has 2 levels, do not go to the top level. Your accuracy and distance will be off.
- Use the putting green. Remember you drive for show and putt for dough. The putter is the only golf club used on every hole. Practice, Practice, Practice.
- Use all your golf clubs. Don’t just take the Golf Driver, you have 13 other clubs and you need to know them. You should know how far you hit each club, off a tee and off the ground. This is valuable information
- Do not hit golf balls in rapid fire. How many times do you see people go through a large bucket of balls in 15 minutes. If you ever watch the pro’s warming up they Hit, Watch and then Adjust.
- Go alone. If you are serious about a practice session you should not be with your buddies. You do not need unwanted and unnecessary information.
- Wear your golf shoes. practice as you would play.
- Learn the distance of each club. People do not realize how important this is. no abouts, about it. know to the yard how far you hit each club. Ask a pro how far they hit their 5 wood and they will tell you exactly. 183 yards, not 180 or 185
- Pick a target. Most driving ranges have multiple flags, markers, traps and whatnot scattered throughout the range. Use these to your advantage. Distance markers are obvious, but ask what the distance to the golf flags are and fine tune your mid and short game.
- Have fun, there is a lot to learn and practice so try and make it fun for yourself.
- Bonus tip. Take a lesson. Most driving ranges have pro’s or semi pro’s available for lessons. You will not believe how far you can take your game with a few lessons.
Learn the game of golf step by step and enjoy it for a lifetime.
